Experience 18. Feasting Tuscan Style. Montecatini Terme, Tuscany. 13 June.
We bid our castle arrivederci as we headed south from the cooler north towards Tuscany. Passing through Bologna to our resting place for the next five nights...a family run hotel in Montecatini Terme. The Italian Summer is with us now as the temperature is in the 30's. Tonight we were treated to a visit to a local farm, Poggios, for an evening of fun, frivolity and feasting Tuscan style. Several bottles of red and white vino were on the tables for us to taste and have as much as we wanted. Italian breads, olive oil and vinegar followed by antipasta....followed by soup....followed by ribs, chicken, Italian sausage, potatoes and salad all in the tuscan way. Finally real Italian food we had all been craving. For dessert came tiramisu, dessert wine and biscotti......they dunk the biscotti in the dessert wine here in Tuscany. And finally a shot of espresso and a shot of grappa. Needless to say a lot of laughter and a bit of singing was in the air as we returned to our hotel. An awesome Tuscan culinary experience.
